A program of intentional time with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ministries are the ways we help tell the world God is present, here and now.

They are unique expressions of our community.  We make lifelong friendships, share our faith, and discover what living as a child of God can be through our call to ministry.  We love what we do, and do what we love.  It’s powerful and life changing stuff.

We can’t do everything the world might need.  We are inspired by the vision that anything we undertake as the people of God should be sustainable, accessible to all, and be spiritually vibrant.  We trust that God has a mission for everyone.  We share ministry with the world.

Sustainable - Ministry is not a solo adventure.  Jesus never sent anyone out to do something alone.  People and resources that regenerate and renew make ministries more than just a whim, or an idea.  We empower people who can share leadership, share experience, teach others, and discover their ministry from their passion in life.

Accessible - Ministry is a who, what, when, where and how proposition.  God has gifted each person with unique abilities and talents.  St. Paul talks about it in scripture as the many parts of the body working together, different and vitally important.  We strive to make our ministries the open expression of these amazing gifts.

Spiritually Vibrant - Ministry feeds the spirit.  When our lives become over extended the stressors of overcommitment begin to consume us.  Ministry, while it can be demanding and difficult because it often challenges us into new ways of living, needs to also fill us up, not drain us.   God is about the work of recreating us.

Ministry Partners

DLC forms relationship of mutual support with other christian communities and other faith communities.  We do so in keeping with our mission and vision as a church.  The following are a list of our ministry partners.

The Belfry - www.thebelfry.org  The UC Davis campus ministry, located at  216 A Street in Davis.  Directly across from the campus.  It is a community of UC Davis students who gather to celebrate grace, serve and explore faith in a Lutheran - Episcopal tradition.  The Belfry is served by campus pastor, Rev. Jocelynn Jurkovich- Hughes, an Episcopal priest. Read her blog at www.pastorsporch.blogspot.com.

Lutheran Church of the Incarnation - www.lcidavis.org  Our sister congregation located in Davis partners with us in ministry.  We often worship together during Advent and Lenten seasons.

Mount Cross Vacation Bible School - www.mtcross.org  Each summer DLC shares a week of bible school with Davis Community Church, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, and Lutheran Church of the Incarnation.  Staffed by Mt. Cross leaders, this is a joyous week of fun and learning.

Celebration of Abraham - DLC lends its leadership to an annual interfaith gathering of Muslims, Jews, and Christians.  This event offers opportunity for interfaith dialogue and community building in Davis.

Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter - http://sites.google.com/a/irwsd.org/volunteers The Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter of Davis (IRWS) is a community based-effort enabling member congregations to provide cold-weather shelter and hospitality on a rotating basis to persons who are homeless in the Davis community.

Sierra Pacific Synod - www.spselca.org  This geographic synod serves as our direct connection to the larger Lutheran church in Northern California and Nevada.  We support a variety of ministries in our synod.  Inner city night missions, camps, Lutheran Social services of Northern CA to name a few.  Our bishop, Rev. Mark Holmerud serves our synod.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - www.elca.org  The ELCA is our national expression of the church.  The largest body of Lutherans in the U.S. offers educational resources, seminaries, colleges, hunger and disaster appeals, and countless other expression of the church for the world.
