Living our lives as part of this christian community we are people who are captured by the gracious promises of God. We invite you to join this community. Come and join us for worship. Information about membership is available at all our worship services.
When you are interested in becoming a member follow these 4 steps.
You don’t necessarily need to do them in order.
1 Fill out the visit card and meet our pastor. (The cards can be found in the sanctuary pews.)
2 Fill out a new member data sheet and see that it makes it to the church office. (This is the basic information we need for your membership.)
3 Attend a Membership Information class. (This class is offered once a month on a Sunday morning.)
4 Be present in worship on a Welcome Sunday to be received into membership. (We love to celebrate together with new members of this Christian community!)
If you have any questions about membership, contact us at church@davislc.org.
FAQ’s about membership.
How do I become a member?
Follow the steps outlined above, contact the office or the pastor if you have questions.
What is the difference between a confirmed member and a baptized member?
DLC has the following designations of membership.
Baptized member - this is a person who has been baptized in any Christian church who chooses to become a member of DLC. Infants and adults are offered the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Schedule an appointment with the pastor to discuss more about Baptism and see our beliefs and practices page for information.
Confirmed member - this is a person who has been baptized and has made a public affirmation of their faith. This affirmation of faith follows a period of instruction in the Christian faith. DLC offers youth confirmation, a two year study leading to an affirmation service. DLC also offers adult baptism and confirmation instruction. Adult confirmation is offered on a individual study basis, designed with the pastor and the new member.
Voting Member - this is a baptized and confirmed member who has communed and made a financial contribution of record during the current or previous year. Voting members are eligible to vote on church decisions, be elected to offices and committee chair positions.
Associate Member - this is a person who desires to maintain their membership in another congregation, and be associated with DLC. They have all the privileges and duties of membership except voting status and eligibility for elected offices.
I am already a member of another Lutheran Church. How do I join?
Our church office can request a transfer of your current membership to DLC. Give the office your current church membership when you fill out the Membership Data Sheet, note on the form that you are transferring your membership from another Lutheran Church.
I am not currently a Lutheran, but I am a baptized and confirmed member of another church. How do I join?
This person joins by affirmation of faith. Talking to the pastor about an adult confirmation study is the next step.
I am an adult, never been baptized. How do I join?
This person joins by the sacrament of Holy Baptism. As an adult, the sacrament is offered freely to anyone who desires this means of grace. Contact the pastor to talk more about Holy Baptism and go to our beliefs and practices page on this site. If this person seeks confirmed membership the adult confirmation study will be included.
Why should I consider being a member?
Every person is welcome to worship and share in the ministry of this congregation. Membership is a commitment you make to the mission and ministry of this church, that involves privileges and duties. Members are eligible to serve as elected leaders of the congregation. They have voice and vote in all matters related to the life of the congregation.
